Book Checkout
Students visit the media center weekly during their assigned specials period. All students are offered a chance to check out library books during this time. Students are responsible for the books that are checked out. Each year, we review proper book care to ensure our books can be enjoyed for years to come. Students must return library books in order to select new ones each week, or students may renew a book to keep it longer. Book fines will be charged for any lost or damaged books.
Pre-K through 1st Grade - 1 book
2nd Grade through 5th Grade - 2 books
Golden Feathers
The search is on! Be the next reader to find a golden feather from the library's golden owl. You won't know if your book has one until you check it out!
At any one time there are 100 golden feathers hidden in library books waiting to be found. By bringing your books back each week and checking out new books, you increase your chances of finding one. If found, the finder picks a prize from the media center treasure chest. These feathers are invisible and constantly switching books, so read as much as you can, as often as you can!
Box Tops
Our media center participates in the Box Tops for Education program. Help us raise money for new books, materials, and resources when you shop by collecting Box Tops found on the items you are already buying. Now it's as easy as downloading the app and scanning your receipt. See our Box Top slider on the homepage for additional information.
Scholastic Book Fair
GKES hosts a Scholastic Book Fair twice each school year in October and March. During this week-long event, students will visit the fair during Media to create wish lists, and students are invited to shop in the media center throughout the school day. Our media center earns 25% of all purchases to help put more books on our shelves. Thank you to everyone who shopped our latest fair. We sold $6,460 of books!
